It's Singapore's Birthday!!

HAPPY 40th Birthday Singapore!!

9th August 1965 was the Sunny Island's independence day! Young nation perhaps.

Just before I enter the parade again to sing all the national songs I used to sing during one of the assembly days when I was in primary school. The teacher in-charge would lead the whole student population in learning 2-3 songs once every week. Almost all the lyrics of the songs are still within my memory, can even sing them without looking at the lyrics! 18 years of singing them, at least once during national day parade celebration.

Up to my junior college days, we are all supposed to sing the national anthem that is in Malay, very meaningful at least I must say to a Singaporean.

Just wanted to share one of the song which I felt that it described Singapore quite truly.

You can visit Sing Singapore website for more songs that was sang as a celebration of the country's birthday! http://www.singsingapore.org.sg/songs.asp

There was a time when people said
That Singapore won't make it, but we did
There was a time when troubles seemed too much
For us to take, but we did
We built a nation, strong and free, reaching out together
For peace and harmony

Chorus 1:
This is my country, this is my flag
This is my future, this is my life
This is my family, these are my friends
We are Singapore, Singaporeans

Singapore our homeland, it's here that we belong
All of us united, one people marching on
We've come so far together, our common destiny
Singapore forever, a nation strong and free

( Repeat Chorus 1 )

( Sung )
( This is actually the Singapore pledge )
We the citizens of Singapore
Pledge ourselves as one united people
Regardless of race, language or religion
To build a democratic society
Based on justice and equality
So as to achieve happiness
Prosperity and progress for our nation

Chorus 2:
We are Singapore, we are Singapore
We will stand together, hear the lion roar
We are Singapore, we are Singapore
We're a nation strong and free forevermore

( Repeat Chorus 1 & 2 )

We are Singapore, Singaporeans ( X 2 )

If you have noticed the lyrics of the song together with others that you have found at the website, it is easy to notice that Singapore government has managed make use of such lovely music and lyrics to motivate THE PEOPLE. Of course you have to try to imagine that you are singing along with hundreds and thousands of people, extra motivated haha.

For my Estonian Friends, you can ask Triin for her first hand experience, she was there last year and she was amazed at how I do not need to look at the lyrics projected on the big screen while she was following the lyrics closely =P

All About SMELLY FARTS at thefart.com

Inspired from Chingyong's blog who named our comments as smelly farts.
Just came across an interesting website all about farts. For more information, check it out at http://www.thefart.com/more.html

Is it weird to enjoy farting?
It is not unusual to enjoy farting. I believe that enjoyment of farting is a healthy attitude, since everyone has to fart. If a person is farting to the extent that it creates problems and unhappiness, then a visit to a doctor is in order.

Is it common for people to enjoy smelling their own farts?
I believe that it is not only common, it is universal. A person farts and then thinks, at least subconsciously, "Wow, I made that!"

Where does fart gas come from?
The gas in our intestines comes from several sources: air we swallow, gas seeping into our intestines from our blood, gas produced by chemical reactions in our guts, and gas produced by bacteria living in our guts.

How much gas does a normal person pass per day?
On average, a person produces about half a liter of fart gas per day, distributed over an average of about fourteen daily farts.Whereas it may be difficult for you to determine your daily flatus volume, you can certainly keep track of your daily numerical fart count. You might try this as a science fair project: Keep a journal of everything you eat and a count of your farts. You might make a note of the potency of their odor as well. See if you can discover a relationship between what you eat, how much you fart, and how much they smell.

Is it true that some people never fart?
No, not if they're alive. People even fart shortly after death.

Do men fart more than women?
No, women fart just as much as men. It's just that most men take more pride in it than most women. There is a large variation among individuals in the amount of fart gas produced per day, but the variation does not correlate with gender.I have read that men fart more often than women. If this is true, then women must be saving it up and expelling more gas per fart than men do.

Do men's farts smell worse than women's farts?
Based on what I have experienced of women's farts, all I can say is that I hope not.

At what time of day is a gentleman most likely to fart?
A gentleman is mostly likely to fart first thing in the morning, while in the bathroom. This is known as "morning thunder," and if the gentleman gets good resonance, it can be heard throughout the household.

Do all people fart in their sleep?
I have not made a scientific study of this, but I don't think all people fart in their sleep. I think mainly those who refuse to fart when they're awake do so when dozing off. For other people, toilet training takes such a strong hold that they let nothing pass their sphincters in sleep. For these people, the gas accumlates in the night and they vent it upon awakening.
